Acting Chief of Police William Harrington Graduated from Carroll College in 2002, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree with majors in Psychology and Business Management. Very soon after Graduating from Carroll College, Chief Harrington began his Law Enforcement Career with the City of Helena Police Department. He has now been protecting and serving the City of East Helena and its Citizens as a Police Officer since 2008.
During his 15 years working in Law Enforcement, Chief Harrington has obtained many Certificates from the Montana Law Enforcement Academy and other Mental Health related Training Organizations. Chief Harrington has been trained as a Detective for Criminal Investigations, and utilizes this training daily while helping to serve the Citizens of East Helena. Chief Harrington acts as a Firearms Instructor and a Police Vehicle Operations Instructor with the East Helena Police Department; and over the years, has volunteered as an Instructor at the Montana Law Enforcement Academy. He has also been certified as a School Resource Officer and a D.A.R.E. Officer. Chief Harrington also works as a team member of the local Crisis Intervention Team.
In 2004, Chief Harrington was honored with the Helena Family Violence Council’s Peace Officer of the Year award, and he is also a Co-Founder and a Board Member of a local nonprofit, geared towards our youth and anti-bullying.
During his tenure with the East Helena Police Department, Chief Harrington has taken great pride while working with his fellow Officers in the Patrol Division, and while working with the Judicial branch of the City of East Helena. He brings extensive knowledge of Law Enforcement practices and procedures, strong leadership skills; dedication and loyalty to the East Helena Citizens, to the City, and to his fellow Officers.
Chief Harrington possesses a true desire to be proactive within all aspects of the Police Department, along with being proactive within the Community. His vision for the future of the East Helena Police Department promises Professional growth and Development for its Officers, and more extensive Community involvement.
